The years before Kindergarten are magical and messy when it comes to reading, writing, listening, and speaking. As babies grow into toddlers and preschoolers, their communication skills go through magnificent transformations. And there are bound to be challenges along the way, too.
- Don't force skills your pre-k child isn't ready to tackle.
- Play, play, and play some more.
- Foster a love for words. Read together every day. Provide lots of supplies for writing, such as paper, crayons, markers, pencils, sidewalk chalk, paint... you get the idea.
- Talk with your child. Every day.
- Listen to your child. Get down to his or her eye level and make eye contact. You might just be surprised how much this makes an impact on your relationship with your child.
Printable Bookmarks - These are easy to use with your child to track reading time together - and make sure you're logging enough reading time every day. Every time you read 10 minutes together your child gets to fill in the circle.
